What is NavX?
NavX is a novel mapping and navigation system with the ability to visualize and navigate a complete set of intracardiac catheters in any cardiac chamber for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
What is EnSite mapping system?
The EnSite Precision Cardiac Mapping System displays the located electrodes as catheter bodies with real-time navigation. It permits the simultaneous display of multiple catheter electrodes (Figure 3) and also reflects real-time motion of ablation and diagnostic catheters in the heart.
What is cardiac mapping system?
What is cardiac mapping? Cardiac mapping is an electrophysiology study, or EP study for short, and helps our staff find out what is causing a heart rhythm problem like arrhythmia. Mapping the electrical activity of the heart is a critical component for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
What is EnSite precision?
The EnSite Precision Cardiac Mapping System allows for a high level of automation, flexibility and precision to help you diagnose a wide range of arrhythmias. 1,2* The EnSite Precision Cardiac Mapping System is designed to: Let you choose the diagnostic and ablation catheters that best meet the needs of your patients.
What is NavX for ablation?
EnSite NavX (Endocardial Solutions, St. Jude Medical, Inc., St. Paul, MN, USA) is a novel navigation system that measures the local voltage on every standard intra-cardiac electrode and calculates the electrode position in three-dimensional (3D) space.
How is EP study done?
During an EP study, your doctor inserts small, thin wire electrodes into a vein in the groin (or neck, in some cases). He or she will then thread the wire electrodes through the vein and into the heart. To do this, he or she uses a special type of X-ray movie, called fluoroscopy.
Does an EP study hurt?
An EP study doesn’t hurt, but you may feel uncomfortable as your heartbeat speeds up or slows down. Tell your care team if you feel any pain. An EP study can take one to four hours. Your test may last longer if you’re also undergoing cardiac ablation.
Are you awake during an EP study?
You will probably be awake during the procedure. But you might be asleep. The doctor will give you medicines to help you feel relaxed and to numb the areas where the catheters go in. An EP study and ablation can take 2 to 6 hours.
What is the difference between a cardiologist and electrophysiologist?
A cardiologist is a surgical specialty that focuses on all disorders of the heart through the use of surgery and other treatment options. An electrophysiologist (EP), on the other hand, treats heart arrhythmias or AFib caused by disruptions in the normal heart rhythm.
Is an EP study safe?
Yes, the electrophysiology (EP) study and catheter ablation procedure are considered safe. As with any procedure, there are potential risks. The risks will be explained by your doctor before the procedure is performed.
How safe is heart ablation surgery?
Catheter ablation is a safe, effective treatment for AFib and certain other arrhythmias. Although rare, the risks of these procedures include: Bleeding, infection, and/or pain where the catheter was inserted. Blood clots (rare), which can travel to the lungs or brain and cause stroke.
How much does an electrophysiologist make a year?
Find out what the average Electrophysiology salary is Entry-level positions start at $68,299 per year, while most experienced workers make up to $83,583 per year.
What is the success rate of cardiac ablation?
Pros of Ablation Higher success rate On average, ablation has a 70 to 80 percent success rate. Those who are young, whose afib is intermittent, and who have no underlying heart disease, can have success rates as high as 95 percent.
How many times can you have ablation?
It is very reasonable to do two ablations; half of all people will have two. In the ideal candidate, a younger person who is highly symptomatic and a highly motivated person, a third ablation is not unreasonable. It should be an infinitesimal number of people in whom you go beyond three ablations.
What procedures are done in an EP lab?
An electrophysiology (EP) study is a test performed to assess your heart’s electrical system or activity and is used to diagnose abnormal heartbeats or arrhythmia. The test is performed by inserting catheters and then wire electrodes, which measure electrical activity, through blood vessels that enter the heart.
What can I expect after an ablation?
In the days after the procedure, you may experience mild symptoms such as an achy chest and discomfort, or bruising in the area where the catheter was inserted. You might also notice skipped heartbeats or irregular heart rhythms. Most people can return to their normal activities within a few days.
What is an EP heart doctor?
A clinical cardiac electrophysiologist, or cardiac EP, is a healthcare provider who treats heart rhythm problems. A cardiac EP is a type of cardiologist. A cardiologist is a healthcare provider who has had 3 or more years of extra training beyond internal medicine to treat problems of the heart and blood vessels.

Graduated from ENSAT (national agronomic school of Toulouse) in plant sciences in 2018, I pursued a CIFRE doctorate under contract with Sun’Agri and INRAE in Avignon between 2019 and 2022. My thesis aimed to study dynamic agrivoltaic systems, in my case in arboriculture. I love to write and share science related Stuff Here on my Website. I am currently continuing at Sun’Agri as an R&D engineer.
